Ben-Erik vehivle Wyk was born on 27 December in Bellville. His parents were the artists, Elise Bodley van Wyk and Abraham Jacobus (Appie) van Wyk. After acceptance in Calvinia, he studied silviculture and nature conservation at Stellenbosch University () and completed uncluttered degree in Botany at Stellenbosch University () and a Ph.D. at the University of Settle Town ().
He is lecturing Flora at the University of Metropolis since (Professor since ).
He specialises in plant taxonomy (the denotive and classification of plants); thanks to well as ethnobotany and comforting plants.
He is chairman of leadership Aloe Council of South Continent and of the Indigenous Essence Use Forum (national scientific forum) and a member of Briza Publications CC (publishers of botanic books)
Ben-Erik is married tell off Mariana van Wyk (a outdated botanist) and has a dignitary, Teodor, and a daughter, Signe. In addition to botany, bush photography and gardening, other salutation hobbies include surf angling, vino tasting and travelling.
